About the Role:

We are looking for someone with a passion for international student programs and strong interpersonal and organisational skills to provide support to the International Student Programs team as the International Programs Assistant.

About the International Programs Team:

Events and programs created by the USU International Programs team attract around 10,000 students each year and we won the Campus Link Award in 2017 for Best Orientation Event in Australia. We also manage the International Student Lounge, one of the most popular student hubs on campus with over 600 patrons daily. We believe in working hard and having fun at the same time.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responding to international student enquiries in a friendly and timely manner
  • Carrying out various administrative duties to help the International Student Programs team including but not limited to data input
  • Assisting in a wide range of programs and events including but not limited to international orientation, orientation presentations, cultural festivals, English workshops and Language Exchange
  • Assisting in editing international EDM and growing the EDM sender list
  • Drafting and scheduling social media posts
  • Researching new ways to engage students at the International Student Lounge

Projected Hours:

Up to 12 hours per week during semester, flexible shifts to suit study. Up to 20 hours are required during International Orientation and International Festival

Essential Criteria:

  • Previous office administration and event management experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including written and verbal skills
  • Excellent cross-cultural communication skills, and an understanding of various cultures
  • Excellent organisational, administrative, problem solving and time management skills
  • Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office suite)
  • Good availability in February and July
  • Ability to work individually and as a member of a team
  • Excellent understanding of social media and ability to engage with student community

Personal Qualities:

  • Passionate about working with a diverse range of people from different backgrounds and cultures
  • High level of attention to detail and proactivity in all aspects of work
  • Warm and approachable, ability to listen actively, friendly and professional

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience as an international student or with other languages/cultures
  • Previous experience in event management aimed at international audiences
  • Experience in USU Clubs & Societies and/or Volunteering Programs
  • Experience with creating basic designs in applications such as Canva
  • Comfortable with public speaking
  • Demonstrated research skills
  • Current USYD student

The Pay: 

$26.70 per hour + 9.5% superannuation
