WHO YOU ARE
As a Student Activities Officer, you’re friendly, approachable and comfortable working in a customer-facing role, with strong attention to detail. You’ll be one of the first points of contact for USU Members (and non-members), so a professional and welcoming tone is essential.
- You enjoy helping students navigate processes and systems, answering questions, and supporting a range of administrative tasks that keep USU programs running smoothly
- You’re organised, reliable and comfortable juggling a variety of tasks, from responding to enquiries and processing forms to assisting with events and activities during peak periods
- You’ll assist with a mix of customer service and admin tasks — answering questions, processing forms, updating systems and supporting USU programs across Membership, Clubs & Societies, Student Programs and Volunteering
- You’ll ideally have some familiarity with the USU or student life at the University of Sydney and are keen to build your experience by working two or more weekdays during the semester
- You like to be challenged with variety! The Student Activities Officer will perform promotional, administrative, registration and customer service responsibilities across the above programs
- You will have prior knowledge of the USU and have most likely played an active role in some aspect. You wish to expand your knowledge by working two or more weekdays during the Semester
WHO WE ARE
We are the heart of Student Life on Campus. Our focus is to provide the best campus experience in Australia. The USU provide one of the largest Clubs and Societies program in Australia, host Campus Flagship events such as Welcome Week Festival, as well as a bunch of one-off events that incorporate our sustainable values as well as our individual portfolios including: Wom*ns, Ethnocultural, Disability and more.
The USU Clubs & Societies program enriches the student experience at the University by fostering a connected and inclusive campus community. Having over 280 Clubs that are student-led, the program provides opportunities for students to pursue their interests, develop leadership skills, and grow personally and socially. Our C&S Program encourages collaboration and interaction between student groups while working closely with faculties, departments and colleges across the University to deliver safe, engaging and meaningful activities that enhance student life.
The USU provides a Membership program (USU Rewards or USU Membership) which unlocks a gateway to Club events and activities, great deals across all USU venues and Membership perks such as cheap eats. You also have the option to join as many USU Clubs as you please.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Our Student Activities Officer roles offer great flexibility around rostering to meet your study requirements as well as being a great opportunity to work on the Sydney University Camperdown Campus. In this role, you will be trained across four areas: Student Experience, Membership, Clubs and Societies, and Volunteering.
Clubs and Societies: Process club administrative tasks including annual affiliation, event registration, grants and website troubleshooting. Customer service across phone calls, email, and face-to-face enquiries
Student Experience: Assist with general event enquires from customers, perform administrative tasks where required, assist with Student Experience events/festivals where required.
Membership: Manage Membership enquiries, drive Membership sales, perform ad-hoc administrative tasks, process registrations and manual payments when required
ESSENTIAL DATES
- Group Interview: Tuesday, 24 March or Wednesday, 25 March 2026, from 10AM to 2PM.
You must be available on at least one day. - Initial Training: Thursday 9 April, from 9AM to 1PM.
- Second Training Day: Friday, 10 April, from 9AM to 1PM.
- Regular Rostering: Monday, 13 April 2026
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Currently enrolled at the University of Sydney
- Outstanding communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
- High level of detail accuracy in all aspects of work-knowledge of USU events, programs and services
- Excellent computer skills – especially in computer based administrative systems and the Microsoft Office platform
- Problem solving and time management skills – able to take initiative
- Passion for student engagement and student programs
- At least 6 months demonstrated exemplary customer service experience, in voluntary or paid capacities, ideally working in a youth or member-focused organisation
DESIRABLE CRITERIA

- At least 6 months demonstrated point of sale and cash handling experience
THE PAY
$36.98 per hour + 12% superannuation
