WHO WE ARE

We are Australia’s largest and oldest Student Union. We are about students on Campus. As the primary provider of coffee & food on campus, we have a wide range of cafes and quick service venues that include our own Food Truck & Coffee Van.

We care about your development so we offer two full days of paid training to help build your barista & customer service skills so you can become a coffee connoisseur & customer service star.

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Welcoming customers and providing them with No.1 service
  • Using your winning smile and knowledge of our menus to make your customers feel welcome and that their satisfaction and repeat business are your top priority
  • A variety of duties that make include making a range of high standard coffee/hot drinks, opening/closing the outlet, setups, accurate order taking, use of POS, cash handling, serving food, cleaning, general cafe duties and supporting the team as a whole with your infectious “can do” attitude
  • Using your strong interpersonal skills to sell the benefits of USU Rewards membership to customers

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • At least 6 months demonstrated experience in a fast paced, customer experience focused food or retail environment
  • At least 6 months years’ experience using a POS in a food and beverage environment
  • An infectiously positive, flexible, can-do & hardworking attitude towards work
  • Strong level of verbal and written communication skills

 

DESIRABLE SKILLS

  • At least 6 months’ experience working with commercial coffee machines in a high-volume environment (using at least 5kgs of beans per day) and a passion for coffee

THE PAY

$30.27 (inclusive of 25% casual loading) per hour + 11% Superannuation 

 

HOURS OF WORK

Are you looking for a career in hospitality? We have you covered with positions with up to 38 casual hours available during the semester period for the especially passionate about good food and student life.

We don’t do weekends– so if you’re looking at working 38 hours a week please note you will need to be available to work everyday Monday through Friday to be considered.

*You must be available to work a minimum of 3 - 4 shifts a week, each shift consists of minimum of 5 hours.

 

START DATE

Successful applicants will be required to be available for the compulsory induction on Monday, 5th February 2024 at 9am to 1pm. Please consider this date prior to applying.

The USU (University of Sydney Union) is proudly Australia’s oldest and largest not-for-profit student organisation, dedicated to providing students with the best possible university experience.
