ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re looking for a casual Student Communications Officer to lead and grow USU’s presence on RedNote. This is a great opportunity for a creative and social media-savvy student who’s passionate about content creation and student life. In this role, you’ll work closely with the Marketing & Communications Executive and the wider digital team to deliver engaging content that promotes USU’s events, clubs, facilities, membership benefits, and international student support initiatives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage and grow USU's RedNote account by delivering timely, engaging and relevant content
- Engage with followers and respond to queries promptly to foster a positive online community and support USU's social listening efforts
- Work closely with the Marketing and Communications Executive to execute and maintain a content calendar aligned with USU's key events and membership initiatives
- Research and monitor new social media trends, and report on content performance metrics to the digital team
- Bring energy and creativity to a range of content projects, including on-camera hosting, street interviews, participating in trends, etc
- Collaborate with internal teams and USU clubs & societies to produce engaging, student-focused content
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Current University of Sydney Student and completing their studies no earlier than the end of Sem 1, 2026
- Fluent in both Mandarin and English, with confidence in public communication in both languages
- High attention to detail with strong written and verbal communication skills, with compelling storytelling abilities that resonate with student audiences
- Creative, curious and passionate about all things content from creating unique, engaging and relatable content to a youth audience
- Comfortable in front of and behind a camera
- Proficient video editing skills in native social media tools (RedNote) and content creation apps
- Solid understanding of social media trends, particularly on RedNote
- Skills in photography, videography, editing or copywriting
- Ability to work independently, with effective time management skills to handle multiple tasks and deadlines
DESIRABLE CRITIERIA
- Previous experience managing social media accounts or digital communication channels
- Experience working in a student-led organisation, not-for-profit, university marketing team, or a similar environment
- Familiarity with USU's programs, clubs & societies, and student activities on campus
- Experience with Capcut editing software is highly favourable

THE PAY
$36.98 per hour + 12% superannuation
interview process
Short-listed applicants must be available for an interview of approximately 20 minutes on Tuesday, 9 December and/or Wednesday, 10 December between the hours of 9am to 4pm.
START DATE AND PROJECTED HOURS PER WEEK
This role will require commitment from the International Student Communications Officer of (approximately) 14 hours per week beginning in late January 2026 and ceasing in December 2026. There is the potential that this may be extended by mutual agreement if the successful candidate performs well in the role.
There will be the opportunity to work more hours during the larger flagship events throughout the semesters, but note that those hours are not guaranteed.
